2021 Ford Escape vs. 2021 Honda CR-V: Engines, Performance and Drivability

In 2020, the Ford Escape was redesigned to include more hybrid options to help drivers reduce emissions. This sleek SUV features a crossover shape with a roomy interior and plenty of space for cargo.

With a 1.5-liter turbo I3 engine, the standard 2021 Ford Escape produces 181 horsepower, and the option to upgrade to a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine means that the Ford Escape can pack up to 250 horsepower without negatively affecting fuel economy.

At a base price of $26,130, the 2021 Escape includes several all-new features, such as a hybrid powertrain on the SE and SEL trim levels, as well as an optional class II towing package for the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

Ford Escape Features:

2,000 lb. maximum towing capacity
Strut front suspension
Short and long arm rear suspension
Optional turbocharged engine
181 horsepower at 6,000 RPM
27 mpg fuel economy in the city
33 mpg fuel economy on the highway

While the CR-V has seen minor updates to its trim in recent years, the 2021 model differs very little from previous releases.

Honda CR-V Features:

1,500 lb. maximum towing capacity
Strut front suspension
Multi-link rear suspension
190 horsepower at 5,600 RPM
28 mpg fuel economy in the city
34 mpg fuel economy on the highway

2021 Ford Escape vs. 2021 Honda CR-V: Technology, Interiors and Safety Features

With speakers by Bang & Olufsen, an 8-inch touchscreen control panel and dual-zone automatic climate control, Ford has pulled out all the stops when it comes to optional features in its upper trim options. Looking at the standard trims, drivers can enjoy a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, a six-speaker surround system and optional leather upholstery.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) assigned the 2021 Ford Escape a five-star overall safety rating. The vehicle comes standard with a broad range of safety features, including:

Electronic stability control
Traction control
Brake assist
Blind spot monitor
Lane departure warning
Cross-traffic alert

The Honda CR-V's 2021 model can be customized to meet a variety of tastes and needs. Options include LED-lighting, rain-sensing wipers and hands-free liftgates. Inside the vehicle, drivers can choose from a range of trims, including optional leather seating and faux wood paneling.

Although the NHTSA provided a five-star overall safety rating for the 2021 CR-V, this vehicle's safety features are limited when compared with the Ford Escape. Cross-traffic alert systems and blind-spot monitoring systems are not included with the CR-V. Features this vehicle does come with include:

Electronic stability control
Child safety locks
Traction control
Daytime running lights

Overall, the 2021 Ford Escape's hybrid options and selection of trims exceed that of the 2021 Honda CR-V. The Escape also includes more standard safety features and higher-end electronic systems.
